Swizzlin

This collection utilizes swizzle sticks, also called stir sticks as a primary medium.

Each one had been used at one time to stir a beverage, coffee, liquor, smoothies and more.

I love finding unique materials that have had a prior purpose and reinventing their role.

I found over a 1000 swizzle sticks from an estate sale where a woman had collected these as her souvenirs from her travels, many labeled with the city/state/country where she found them. I could tell how much she loved them. When I saw the numerous plastic bags filled with these colorful sticks, my mind immediately started brainstorming and creating all the ways I could utilize this outdated material. I love that from a distance there is ambiguity about the material and when close a whole new story arises within each stick’s design.
